The construction and maintenance of roads, dual carriageways and highways has comprised one of the core businesses of S.A. de Obras y Servicios, COPASA since its foundation, in 1985, both in Spain and in other countries.

The company has developed some of these large highway projects as concessions, including design, financing, construction and long-term operation.

Examples of these concession projects are the Salnés, Celanova and Costa da Morte highways, all already in operation, making COPASA an outstanding agent in this type of contract.

An essential complement to this type of project are bridges, viaducts and tunnels. COPASA has enormous experience in constructing all types of singular infrastructures, using technologically advanced construction systems.

In the construction of tunnels, the company has used various methodologies, utilising both traditional means and state-of-the-art tunnelling machines (TBM).

A notable example of tunnel construction that COPASA is carrying out at the moment are the two tunnels on the “Rodoanel Mario Covas” highway in Sao Paulo, Brazil. These are two parallel tunnels, each one with a 200 m² section and 1 km. in length.
